What is a shrub?

A shrub is a small to medium-sized perennial woody plant. Shrubs have persistent woody stems above the ground. Shrubs can be either deciduous or evergreen.

These flowers repeat bloom from spring to frost. This plant can be grouped or mixed in with other perennials, shrubs, or roses. These roses are low maintenance and easy to grow.

The single and double refer to the appearance in terms of petals. The Double Knockout Rose appears to have a secondary flower in the center, doubling the flower quantity.

Sunshine Ligustrum offers golden foliage that flourishes year-round. 

This sterile, non-invasive cultivar will not re-seed into the landscape. In fact, it doesn’t bloom at all, which is good news for allergy sufferers!

A Carissa holly is a classic choice for a low-growing compact foundation. Carissa has deep green glossy leaves with one pointed spine at the tip. Carissa is easily maintained once established.

This shrub is a cone shaped plant with green foliage, the leaves are soft to the touch with no spines. This holly is bigger with a height of 5-10 feet but can be maintained at a 5x3 feet measurement.

Burford Holly

The Burford Holly tree is an evergreen tree that can attain a height of up to 15 feet. This tree species is characterized by its inwardly rolled leaves that have a single pointed tip. One of its most notable features is its ability to produce a large number of red berries.  

The Dwarf Burford variety of this tree grows to a shorter height of only 6-8 feet. It has smaller leaves that measure up to 2 inches in length and exhibit darker foliage. This variety is also a popular choice for landscaping, especially for smaller spaces where larger trees may not be suitable.

This shrub exhibits versatility and can be implemented either in a solitary manner or in a small cluster. When planted together, it serves as an excellent hedge, screen, or wind barrier. It should be noted that this holly variation tends to be taller than the Burford holly.
